Every year, we spend billions of dollars in the name of "development", but what is it we are actually working towards, what are the worlds governments, NGO's, UN agencies actually trying to achieve?

With all the time, effort and money spent on development, humanitarian aid and development why are there still millions of people starving? Why are there still wars? Why is there corruption? Why is it okay for a few to benefit when the majority are in need? Are we heading in the right direction? If so, what is that direction?

A concept that I genuinely struggle to comprehend is that we as humans have the ability to think, learn , reason, rationalise and apply intelligence and analysis to all manner of issues in order to come up with ways to fix problems. We can generate profit. We can make faster, cheaper and smaller computers. We can sms, chat, poke, message and tweet. We have technology that allows us to instantly transfer money and communicate around the globe at the click of a button. We are adept in all manner of things to make our own lives easier and more comfortable yet we have not come up with or applied any real and effective working solutions for what are ongoing, tragic and massive problems that result in famine, poverty, pain, suffering and death for millions of people each year.
